MDHHS Emergency Order

18 November 2020

In response to the MDHHS emergency order (MCL 333.2253), Forest Hills Management is modifying its operations effective immediately, and until the order has been lifted.

This is what it means to you:

Office
  • The office lobby will be closed
  • No entry will be permitted
  • We are still available during normal business hours, by phone and by email
Maintenance
  • Maintenance will only respond to emergency work orders
  • Please continue to call in emergency work orders
Members
  • If maintenance is entering your home on an emergency work order:
    • You must wear a mask, too!
    • Respect social distancing. Stay six feet away from the maintenance staff while they are assisting you with your maintenance-emergency.
    • Please do not be offended if maintenance staff asks you to step back, leave the room, or use a tape measure to visually assist you or anyone else who is not respecting the social distancing rule.

Forest Hills Cooperative is one of the residential communities that would be impacted by a new project under consideration by the City of Ann Arbor. To ensure that all members are aware of this proposal, and how it might affect them, the Board of Directors would like each member to carefully read a petition that is currently circulating in our area.

Forest Hills members who agree with the terms of this petition are welcome to fill out the form below it. All responses will be forwarded to the Forest Hills Managing Agent, Jennie Bach. Respondents' information will then be shared with the coalition that created the petition, the Ann Arbor City Council, and any other stakeholders.

The Petition
NO TO LOCKWOOD 2! File No. SP20-010 & Z20-027

We, the residents of southeast Ann Arbor, object to the zoning change from R1C to a Planned Unit Development (PUD) to allow a for-profit entity, Lockwood Properties to build yet another senior-citizen highrise, where a neighborhood community center could be, as stated in the city’s Master Plan.

This zoning change will also greatly reduce the taxes required by Lockwood Properties.

“Lockwood 2” is a project that was rejected in a more affluent and less diverse community elsewhere in the city.

The offer of a few ‘affordable’ housing units is not sustainable nor as ‘affordable’ as what already exists in some of our Southeast Coalition partners (Forest Hills, University Townhouses, Arbor Oaks, etc.)

This zoning change will:

  • Allow private residential space to be converted into commercial use, contrary to the agreed-upon Master Plan developed by City and community residents. Lockwood would not be required to be built in accordance with the City’s A2Zero carbon neutrality plan adopted by the City council on June 1, 2020.
  • Will eliminate the option of a non-profit communal space
  • Cause hardship to the current residents of Southeast Ann Arbor by:
    • increasing traffic flow
    • sustaining damage to the environment, thus exacerbating continuous flooding issues
    • drastically changing the natural appeal of the neighborhood
    • continually disregarding the voice of residents
    • impacting marginalized communities without offering them sustainable benefits

Shadowood Storm Drain Repairs

Weather Permitting

13 October 2020

The storm drains located in the Northeast end of the following courts are scheduled for repairs on Tuesday, October 13th at 8:00 AM, weather permitting.
2311-2347 Shadowood Drive

Members who park in spaces #77 and #78, and the three blue-lined spaces across from them, will need to find alternate parking while the repairs are underway.

2330-2348 Shadowood Drive

Members who park in spaces #107, #108, #109, and #110 will need to find alternate parking while the repairs are underway.

The vehicles in the areas listed above must be removed by 8:00 am, Tuesday morning. Cones/barricades will be put in place and any vehicle left in these areas will be towed at the owners’ expense. Once the cones have been removed, you may resume parking in the area. We anticipate the work being complete, the concrete cured and court opened by Friday morning.

Parents: heavy equipment will be used to conduct the repairs. Please keep children away from the area, machines, and contractors.

Water Meter Replacements

This is an advance notice of a disruption in water service to your building.

The Ann Arbor Water Department has contracted with Utility Metering Solutions (UMS) to replace water meters throughout our cooperative. The water meter that services your building will be replaced between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM, according to the following schedule:

  • Hardyke and Hemlock: Tuesday, October 6th, 2020
  • Shadowood: Wednesday, October 7th, 2020
  • Laurelwood: Thursday, October 8th, 2020
  • Jonathan: Tuesday, October 13th, 2020

We expect any inconvenience to be minimal, as the actual meter replacement will take about 30 to 60 minutes. Entry should only be required in the home that has the actual meter in the basement.

The contractors will have ID badges; bright, yellow t-shirts; and jackets or vests displaying the company name as well as clearly marked vehicles. As always, a member of the Forest Hills staff will accompany the technician during this process.

Please be sure there is clear access to the water meter.

If you have pets, be sure they are confined to a bedroom or crate in your home.

After the meter replacement, you may experience sediment in your line. To clear the lines, simply run the cold water in your basement utility-tub until the water runs clear, about 5 minutes. This will help prevent the aerators in other areas of your home—such as your bathroom and kitchen sinks—from becoming clogged.
