Rules and Regulations

Rules to Live By

Living in a community like Forest Hills offers tremendous advantages—friendly neighbors from all over the globe, caring and professional property management, plenty of open spaces and mature trees, and the agency to help establish communal priorities and values through a cooperative government.

But, Why So Many Rules?

After fifty years of communal living, we've learned what we need our members to do, and not to do, to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone who lives in, works at, or visits Forest Hills. Naturally, those rules have evolved over time, and in our constantly changing world, we will continue to adapt.

But, Forest Hills isn't the only one making the rules. The City of Ann Arbor has its own housing codes. We'll always do our best to communicate which rules are from who, but for a quick reference, please review our Six Most Commonly Found Code Violations .

The full municipal code is available at Ann Arbor Municipal Code

In this section, the articles under the "Rules By Topic" menu are being added and updated all the time, so if there's anything you don't see, or have questions about, please call us during our regular business hours at 734-971-9270, or email us at fhc@foresthillscoop.org.

If you think there's a problem at Forest HIlls that hasn't been properly addressed through our current membership rules, we strongly urge all members in good standing to become active and engaged in the decision-making process. We welcome you to do this by attending our Annual Membership Meetings, open Board meetings, and by taking the time to communicate your concerns directly to our Board of Directors using the form below:
